Most professional and one of the friendliest visit to a front-end shop I’ve ever experienced. Clean waiting area, tidy shop space. Got me in on short notice, drove with a tech to get a sense of the noise, repaired the immediate issue quickly, didn’t push me on upselling the other maintenance item they found on inspection—they earned my future business. My experience at Oswald Car Repair was not exactly a positive one. We called about an issue with our car, and were informed that we would need to have a diagnostic done on the car, which was $180 for a full health and safety report and diagnostic. We had this done and the repair was confirmed, but not all issues with my vehicle were assessed. This is an issue because we were told that a full inspection of the car had been done, including parts very near the other problem areas in the vehicle. We had the repair done for 2,600 dollars, plus the health and safety/diagnostic. The valve cover VCT actuator Timing chain tensioner Were replaced. We got the car back and it still had a grinding noise, it was half a quart low on oil, and they did not clean the engine bay whatsoever, leaving fingerprints and oil where it had seeped from the valve cover before it was replaced. We took the car back in and they kept it for three more days. Day one we heard nothing. Day two we called and received a call back saying they had started it several times with no noise so they requested that we come in to start it for them and listen for the issue. We started the car and it immediately made the sound, started it again and it didn't. We asked again for the engine to be cleaned off, and were assured by the lead man that it would be taken care of. Finally, they called and told us that the year of our car and the fact that it has a high pressure fuel pump is causing a grinding or clattering noise when it starts due to oil deprivation when starting, but that it will not harm our vehicle. We picked our vehicle up again. We trusted that they did what was asked. We checked that weekend, and the engine had not been cleaned whatsoever. I am at the point I do not trust the work they have done, I do not know if it was done correctly, I feel that it was a rush job, and I want a second opinion. We asked for our diagnostic fee back, so we can get that second opinion and were told that they want photo evidence of the uncleaned motor, and that they will credit us only half of the diagnostic fee. I am so defeated and unimpressed. I have no desire to ever spend money here again, as I have been stripped of all trust in the shop. My opinion? Spend the money you've spent hours of your life making elsewhere. It wasn't even worth 10 minutes and a can of brake cleaner to avoid all of this.
