Not trustworthy anymore! My wife’s ‘17 GMC Sierra started having unpredictable electrical problems where the entire instrument cluster would blink, we’d get warning messages, service messages, and sometimes the engine would even turn off while driving. I didn’t have time to look at it myself, so I brought it to Oswald’s. They had it for two days before telling me it was a faulty AMP Research power step module interfering with various modules. I seriously doubted their diagnosis, so I asked them to check over the battery cables and all the grounds. After a third day in their shop, they claimed to have found one bad ground that they had to remove the passenger fender liner to access and clean. We got the vehicle back and kept the AMP module disconnected at their instruction. Unfortunately, we continued to experience the same problems. We plugged the AMP module back in and there was no change in frequency, severity, or predictability of the electrical issues. When I made the time to look at it myself, I found the positive battery terminal was not tight. It’s been 3+ months of daily driving after tightening that positive battery terminal and we haven’t had one electrical issues. We’ve kept the AMP module connected as well, not a single issue. Missing a simple loose battery connection was the first strike. Second, they did not have to remove the fender liner to access the ground they claimed was faulty. The previous owner of the vehicle had trimmed the fender liner to fit the larger tires, so the ground was fully accessible with the fender liner still installed. The third strike was quoting an incredible amount to replace worn ball joints. When I asked the service manager why it was over $2500 to replace the upper ball joints, he said the entire control arm must be replaced because it’s cheaper than paying the labor of pressing ball joints in and out. I don’t think they actually inspected the vehicle, because it has aftermarket tubular control arms with bolt in ball joints. They can be very easily replaced in a few hours and a quality replacement part is about $60. I paid them for three days of diagnostics and a repair. When I got the vehicle back, I still have to diagnose and repair it myself. I won’t be taking any vehicles back to them.

Adam, we sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, and we regret that we let you down. We should have caught the loose battery terminal, and we take full responsibility for that oversight. We also recognize that our communication around the diagnostics and repair process could have been clearer, and we apologize for any frustration that caused. Josh appreciated the opportunity to speak with you and make things right. Your feedback helps us improve, and we’re taking steps to ensure better accuracy and thoroughness in our diagnostic process moving forward. We understand your frustration and completely respect your decision, but if you ever choose to give us another chance, we’d love the opportunity to earn back your trust. Thank you again for holding us accountable and helping us improve.

I don't know what to say. I've taken all of my vehicles to Oswald Service for many years, even traveling from out of state to take my vehicles to them. We purchased a suburban about 5 years ago. We had it in a few times for electrical problems, including the battery kept dying. We spent a lot of money, yet the problem persisted. We went to an auto parts store and they said the battery was bad, under warranty even. They weren't just trying to sell me a battery. Recently I took the vehicle in due to the front heater blower not working. I spent $977.77 for Oswald to replace the blower and the resistor. I checked online and that is about $300 dollars in parts. A video shows it takes about 10 minutes of work. I feel like I've been taken to the cleaners. I had suspected this at times the past few years due to me forking out money for ongoing electrical problems and then finding out the battery was bad. I was left wondering if a mechanic really didn't even check the battery. Besides me spending nearly $1000 this visit for repairs, they kindly gave me a list of unrelated repairs they say my vehicle needs. These repairs are about another $8,000. The vehicle is worth about half that. I'm not sure why a mechanic would recommend me spending twice what a vehicle is worth, in repairs. Maybe I've been too trusting and spent too much money having them repair my vehicles. Many years ago I took a vehicle in for a leak. They diagnosed it with a bad frost plug. They charge me a lot to replace it. A short time later the leak was back. They said it was another frost plug. I'm no mechanic, but from what they explained to me the plug only cost a few dollars, the rest was labor. Why wouldn't they have replaced all the frost plugs at the same time? Again, maybe I've been to trusting and foolish. Time to look at other options for future repair, stop recommending this place to family, friends, and multiple new neighbors on social media. I left this review on their Facebook page and they didn't even respond.

Clip, we truly appreciate the many years you’ve trusted us with your vehicles, and we’re sorry to hear that your recent experiences left you feeling disappointed. We take your concerns seriously and recognize that we could have done a better job both in diagnosing your electrical issue and in communicating the reasoning behind our recommendations and pricing. Kevin valued the opportunity to speak with you and gain insight into how we can improve. Your feedback has already helped us make meaningful changes, and we’re committed to ensuring better transparency and thoroughness moving forward. We understand your frustration and respect your decision, but we’d love the chance to earn back your trust in the future. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience—it’s feedback like yours that helps us grow and do better.

I went to Oswald for many years. I always recommended them to all my friends. I sent them a lot of business. The last time I went there, they charged me $600 to replace 2 headlights. At first, for $600, I thought they were going to replace the entire light fixture, but when I picked it up they gave me the box for the bulb they replaced, and it was like a $50 light bulb. They charged me $300 each ($600 total) just for the bulbs - not including the labor. I was mad, but I decided to give them another try. So I took my wife's Bronco in to get a quote to fix the CV axel. It seemed high so I took it to the Ford dealership, and their quote was literally half the amount of Oswald's - for the same job. I'm not going to pay Oswald TWICE AS MUCH as what the dealership would charge. Oswald used to take good care of me and treat me fairly, but something changed and now they're trying to gouge me, after years of loyalty and all the business that I sent their way. Now they lost my business, and all of the business that I would have referred to them.

Steve, we truly appreciate your years of loyalty and the trust you’ve placed in us over the years. We’re sorry to hear that your recent experiences didn’t reflect the level of service and fairness you’ve come to expect from Oswald's. We should have communicated more clearly about the pricing, and we take full responsibility for that. Nick enjoyed speaking with you and appreciated the opportunity to listen to your concerns. Your feedback is invaluable, and we’re actively working to ensure better transparency moving forward. We’re grateful for your willingness to give us another shot in the future, and we’ll do everything we can to earn back your trust. Thank you again for sharing your experience—we’re always striving to improve.
